We have discussed climate change and the affect humans have had on greenhouse gasses in Earth's atmosphere. Let's shift our attention to more direct impacts of humans on environments. Today you will be reading a case study about the Amazon Rainforest and proposing a use for land in the rainforest. First you will need to read over the case study attached below. Make sure to skim-and-scan for important information. If you need to, take notes on a separate sheet of paper.
Once you have read over the case study, you will answer the 4 questions at the end of the study. Answer these on a separate sheet of paper so you can turn them in at the end of class. When everyone at your table is done with the questions, work as a group to come up with a proposal for the land. Be sure to explain your answer and support it with evidence from class. Make it a convincing argument!
We have now seen some of the impact humans have had on the environment. Now we are going to look at things that we can do to reduce our impact and help preserve Earth's Environment.
For this project you will do the following:
You may work individually or in a group of 2 on this project. We will be presenting these in class tomorrow so be sure to use your time wisely! By the end of class today, comment on this post with a "Tweet" about how you plan on telling people to reduce their carbon footprint. It should be no longer than 160 characters (including hashtags)! Good luck! I'm excited to see your work! Edit: Great comments everyone! I love the use of hashtags and you all had some really awesome (and simple) ways we can all reduce our carbon footprint!!! Yesterday we discussed some of the effects that humans have had on ecosystems. We discussed three major factors: agriculture, development, and industrialization. Today we are going to look at a case study about global warming. Your job will be the following:
Today we started our new unit by going over some of the effects of human activities on ecosystems. If you missed class or need to review, please take a look at the video below! Let me know if you have any questions or if there is a specific topic you want to discuss in class! |
